Gorilla Trekking Optional Add On

If you want to join for Optional Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi, the permit for this costs  €800. For this experience you hike 1-6 hours through wild forest to spend one hour up close with wild mountain Gorillas.

You can choose this option at checkout – please note if choosing Gorillas add on €800 will be due one month from booking to pay for your permit. This payment is non refundable.

If you choose not to do Gorillas, there are lots of other amazing activities in Bwindi to do on this ‘Free Day’. 

Itinerary

Day 1 -Arrival in Entebbe

Arrival and Welcome to Uganda!
Airport pickup and transfer to hotel on Day 1 is included.

*Please note pickup times with the guide will be from between 9am-9pm.
Pickups up before or after this time incur additional $10 charge.

Full day Kampala ‘boda boda’ city tour, exploring the city like the locals do on these local motorcycle taxis.
Visit the Gaddafi mosque and climb the steps for a 365 degree view of the city, ride into downtown Kampala, Visit Owino market, taxi park to see the organised chaos, an insight into everyday Ugandan city life.
Enjoy a local Ugandan street food snack for lunch, the Rolex. After go check-in to your accommodation, a bustling backpackers hostel with fun vibes, centrally located in twin sharing rooms. Bar and restaurant onsite so no need to leave.

Tonight is free to relax and explore yourself.
*Optional Cultural show at Ndere cultural centre including Buffet Dinner 6pm-10pm @$50

After breakfast transfer to Ziwa ~3 hours for rhino tracking.
Enjoy this exciting activity going out on foot in search of the reserves 40+ Southern white Rhinos. Learn about their exciting reintroduction plans back to the wild and get up close on foot accompanied by a ranger.
After lunch leave for Masindi to check-in to your accommodation.
Half the group will go Chimpanzee tracking this evening and the other half will go tomorrow morning.
*For the half of the group not doing Chimps there will be an optional guided walking tour
of Masindi, $5 tip for the guide.
Or you can take the evening to relax.
Evening Chimp tracking in Budongo Forest.
Head out with your Chimpanzee ranger into the forest in search of ~30 chimps that call this small forest home. This activity can take from 1-3+ hours, depending on where the Chimpsare located. These are wild animals so sightings are not guaranteed but its sure to be thrilling experience being out in Nature.

Morning chimps / relax ..
*Optional Guided walking tour of Masindi @$5 tip for Guide. After everyone returns from chimps you will get on the road to Murchison falls.
Enjoy a picnic lunch at the Top of the falls.
We will have lots of opportunities to spot monkeys on the drive to our accommodation, where hippos roam at night…

Full day in Murchison Falls National Park. This park is home to the largest population of the Nubian Giraffe as well as the highest
density of Leopards in Africa, so they say!
Early morning armed with a packed breakfast head out for a game drive up to 11am where you will enjoy a boat cruise safari along the Nile.
This is the best chances to get up close to animals such as hippos and crocodiles and other animals coming to the water’s edge to drink as well as getting a great view of the impressive falls from below.

Return to camp for lunch and relax in the heat of the day.
In the later evening about 4-5pm head out for an evening game drive up to dark. Here is
your chance to spot predators as they start to become active ready for the night ahead.

Today is a long transfer day to Kibale ~7 hours.
Its a long but scenic drive passing through villages and tea plantations as well as Kibale forest National Park.

After continue to the lodge for check-in by 3-4pm and relax for the evening.

Today you will explore Bigodi Cultural and wetland walk tour.
You will visit a number of houses to learn about local Ugandan ways of life from making tea/coffee, a local medicine man, banana beer and gin making (free tasting included!) And a women’s group for basket weaving.Local lunch experience also included.
Visit Bigodi wetland for a tour in search of birds and monkeys.

Drive to Bwindi via Queen Elizabeth National Park.
This is another long but scenic day ~7 hours. You will feel like you are on a game drive as you transit through Queen Elizabeth National park, passing the Kazinga channel and even driving via the Ishasha road famous for Tree
climbing lions, keep your eyes peeled!
Stop for a local buffet lunch as Save Wildlife Ugandas Simba Cafe outside Ishasha.
This is a local project aimed at offering alternative livelihoods to mitigate human wildlife conflict. They also have a craft shop and women’s project.
After continue to Bwindi and reach late evening.
Check-in at our lodge which is also a women’s charity, doing incredible things. Our stay here directly contributes to their work. You will be warmly welcomed.

Today is for:
*optional Mountain Gorilla trekking @ €800.

For those that have chosen to trek the Gorillas, your day will begin early as you set off for the nearby Bwindi headquarters to receive a briefing, meet your ranger team and be assigned your Gorilla family. This activity
takes from 2-6+ hours, it all depends on the gorilla family you are assigned, their location and if they are on the move. Generally most people with average fitness can make this trek, it can be challenging but is 100% worth it. Once you find them you will get to spend 1 hour with the Gorilla family. Face masks must be worn correctly covering your nose and mouth at all times during this 1 hour, this is for both your health and the gorillas as we share 98.8%
of our DNA.


For those not doing the gorillas you can choose:
-Enjoy activities around Ride4awoman where you can enjoy basket weaving class, cooking class, bicycle ride through the villages, prices vary ~$30.
-Visit the pangolin rescue centre @$25 donation.
-You can do a nature walk in Bwindi great for Birding monkeys, scenery and theres also a chance of Gorillas as this is the same forest @$100.
-Batwa Cultural experience, these are the local people who lived in the forest before it was
made a national park, learn about their past way of living off the forest @$20.

Today you will wave goodbye to Bwindi and make your way to Lake Mburo National Park
~7 hours.
Stop for a local lunch buffet en-route. Arrive, checkin for your Final night in Uganda.

Head out for one final exciting activity a Morning walking safari.
This is where you will go out on foot joined by a ranger.
It usually offers great chances to get up close to animals like Giraffe and Zebra. This park
doesn’t have many predators, no lions so most prey animals are more relaxed giving you
great opportunity to get up close to them.
After you will start the transfer back to Entebbe making a stop for lunch at the Equator and some last souvenir shopping.
Continue to end at Entebbe airport or if you are staying an extra night back to our first accommodation.
Please do not book flights earlier than 8pm. We will aim to have you back in Entebbe by 5pm.
