Upon arriving in Kilimanjaro Airport, our team will be waiting to greet you and transfer you to our comfortable hotel in Arusha. Check in, relax and enjoy the mountain views, and prepare for your adventure meeting your expert guide for a detailed trek briefing and gear check.

The journey begins! After an early breakfast we drive to Marangu Gate (1860m) where we start our trek. (4-5 hours) We’ll hike through lush rainforest, seeing playful blue monkeys, exotic flora and towering trees.

After a hearty breakfast, the trek continues into the moorland zone. Today we trek for 6-7 hours as the air grows crisper. We arrive at Horombo hut, our home for the next 2 nights.

A short but crucial day for acclimatization – a short hike to Zebra Rock to help adjust your body to higher altitudes and increase your success rates. Return to Horombo hut for a relaxed afternoon.

Early rise and ascend  into the alpine desert zone. Todays landscape becomes rocky and vast. Today we reach base camp – 4720m. After an early dinner we rest as much as possible as the final descent begins at midnight.

The most challenging but rewarding day has arrived! Wake at midnight for hot tea and snacks before embarking on the final push to Uhuru Preak 5895m. The trek is slow and steady following zigzags to the crater rim. From here push forward past the galciers and stand a top the Roof of Africa, Uhuru Peak – see the breathtaking views before beginning the trek back to descent back to Horombo hut.

Receive summit certificates, enjoy a celebratory lunch, and transfer back to Arusha.

You probably will just want to relax today, but some optional acitivities include massages, city exploration and relaxing at the hotel.

Today is the day we check out and say goodbye – unless you are continuing on to part 2 of the trip: Safari and Zanzibar – this is the day people will start arriving for our next adventure!

FAQ's

A lot of our trips have an average age of 20-35. However, our more adventurous trips tend to have a more mixed age range (20’s- 50’s) and ANYONE with a sense of adventure is welcome (though must be 18+).

We will be doing this trek in the most comfortable way possible, choosing the route with Hut Accommodation. That being said, it will by no means be glamorous up there!

Unlike other Kilimanjaro routes with tents, the Marangu Route provides huts with bunk beds and mattresses.
🏠 Mandara Hut & Horombo Hut – Shared dorm-style rooms, solar lighting.
🏠 Kibo Hut – Basic alpine hut at 4,720m, with communal sleeping areas.
Toilets are basic (pit latrines), and there are no showers during the trek.

Climbing Kilimanjaro does not require technical mountaineering skills, but it is a challenging trek due to the altitude and long hiking hours. The key to success is proper acclimatization, a slow pace, and physical preparation.

The trip will begin in Success rates vary depending on the route and number of acclimatization days. The Marangu Route, which we are taking, has a 60-70% success rate when done in 5-6 days. Acclimatization hikes increase your chances of reaching Uhuru Peak.

Travel and medical insurance for this trip is mandatory. We highly recommend travel insurance that covers:
✔️ High-altitude trekking (up to 6,000m)
✔️ Emergency evacuation & medical expenses
✔️ Trip cancellations & delays

We recommend flying into and out of Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Unless you are joining for our Safari and Zanzibar trip, in which case the trip will end in Zanzibar.

Craic On Travels does not organise flights, it is the responsibility of the customer to organise their own flights. We do make a group chat 60 days before the trip so people can co-ordinate their travels together if they like!
